6-Week Evening Wheel Class Series

Interested in learning how to throw pottery on the wheel and want more individualized attention? Our six-week class series is beginner-friendly and designed for students with little to no experience.
With seating limited to 5 participants, students will receive high quality demonstrations and instructional time offered by an experienced potter. Each class focuses on progressive skill building through practicing the basic techniques.
The $275 registration fee covers the cost of everything needed to start learning how to make your own pottery!
Must be 18 or older to participate. No experience or additional purchases necessary. This is a great option for families, friends or work teams to register as a group learning experience!
What to Expect:
2.5 hours per class, once a week - includes a demonstration, set up, instruction, practice time and clean up. Hands on guidance, group learning and plenty of questions and answers.
Learn the basics of pottery making – setting up the workstation, wedging and centering clay, throwing cylinders for cups, tumblers, mugs and bowls, shaping techniques and basic tools, forming and attaching handles, trimming and finishing wares to be ready for bisque, dip glazing 101 and studio clean up.
Dress casually and anticipate getting clothing messy; studio aprons and towels provided for use. Long hair must be completely secured. No loose garments, jewelry or other items that may get caught on the wheel or in the clay. Long fingernails are not recommended.
What is included:
25lb. bag of clay, access to studio tools and equipment, one 28x28x8” storage rack for wares, choice of studio dip glazes, one bisque and one glaze kiln firing.
One 2 hour open studio session for independent practice (TBA)
Students may fire up to two cups, two mugs and two bowls (7” or under in any direction). Any other pots made beyond the maximum will be recycled. Unfired clay or bisque will not be permitted to leave the studio.
Space is limited. Tuition is non-refundable unless program is cancelled by NCPC if minimum of 3 students registered isn’t met. Classes are scheduled in a progressive series. No refunds, credits or make-up dates are offered for missed classes. If NCPC needs to cancel a class due to unforeseen events, there will be a make up class date TBA.

*Please allow up to 4 weeks for finished wares to be ready for pickup at the NC Pottery Center. Participants will be notified by phone. Wares to be picked up are held for 90 days.
