What’s Upstairs?, The Return — Staff Picks (July 1 – August 27, 2022)

Back in 2012, the North Carolina Pottery Center held a show featuring pieces from the center’s permanent collection that aren’t on permanent display and are normally safely tucked away upstairs inside the center’s open-air storage cubbies which only offer visitors tantalizing glimpses of interesting pieces. While we now have an online eCollections portal (ncpotterycenter.omeka.net) through which all of the center’s permanent collection pieces can be searched and viewed, we decided it was time to reprise the 2012 show and let our staff pick the pieces to be included. As one might expect, the pieces selected for inclusion are varied and eclectic – ranging from older pieces by W.N. Craven (not pictured) and J.F. Seagle to more contemporary pieces by David Cole, Alex Matisse and Hiroshi Sueyoshi. And, many more. We hope you will stop by for a visit and take advantage of this opportunity to see some of the center’s permanent collection pieces that aren’t normally viewable.
