Korean Influence on North Carolina Pottery (Feb 5 – June 25, 2022)
North Carolina’s pottery history and contemporary scene is an amalgamation of ideas from various places and cultures that continues to evolve over time as the diverse nature of our world become more distributed, more easily accessible, and more a part of everyday life.
The influence of Korean ceramics on North Carolina’s pottery tradition is a relatively recent development. It has its origins in some of the designs Jacques Busbee incorporated when he started Jugtown Pottery in 1917, most notably a Korean bowl form. As North Carolina’s art pottery scene developed, other art potteries in the state mimicked some of those early forms created by Jugtown Pottery.
Most of the influence of Korean ceramics on North Carolina pottery can be seen today in the works of some of our state’s talented contemporary artists. Examples of their work, as well as a few early examples from Jugtown Pottery, will be highlighted in this show.

Most of the contemporary pieces in this show will be available for purchase but remain in the show until the show’s June 18th end date.
