Two-Day Figure Sculpture Workshop
September 28, 2019 @ 10:00 am - September 29, 2019 @ 1:00 pm
Two-Day Figure Sculpture Workshop taught by Christine L. Evans, Artist-in-Residence
September 28, 10 am to 1pm, and September 29, 10 am to 1pm
Member price $75, Non-Member price $90
This workshop makes figure sculpture achievable for beginners using traditional hand-building techniques. We will be using slabs and coils to build an elongated, stylized body for our figures. We will use the pinch pot method to form a head and coils to make hair. Special attention will be given to rendering expressive faces with realistic features. Students will be encouraged to decorate their figures with their own personal, narrative additions. Pieces will be approximately 15 inches tall. Students’ work will be fired and finished simply with an iron stain wash. All tools and clay will be provided by the Center but if you have your own sculpting tools, please feel free to bring them. Please bring a reference image detailing a face you wish to emulate on the first day of class. Class is for beginning through intermediate students.
Instructor Christine Evans joined us from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and specializes in figurative sculpture. A graduate of the University of New Mexico with a B.A. in Fine Arts, with an emphasis in Ceramics, Christine has been teaching pottery since 2003 while simultaneously developing her own body of work.
Christine says, “I seek to convey the beauty of humanity’s emotional response to life through my work. Sculpting the human figure allows me to express particular qualities of feeling in very direct ways. People are adept at reading faces for emotional content and my sculptures are part of that conversation.”
