Clay Talks! with Christine Evans

October 3, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Join us at the North Carolina Pottery Center on Thursday, October 3rd for a slide presentation by the NCPC Artist-in-Residence Christine Evans!

Christine is from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and specializes in figurative sculpture. During her residency, Christine has been focused on creating a body of work which incorporates local materials and has been delving deeply into the emotional content of her work.  A graduate of the University of New Mexico with a B.A. in Fine Arts, with an emphasis in Ceramics, Christine has been teaching pottery since 2003 while simultaneously developing her own body of work.

Christine has been significantly influenced by the natural beauty of the Seagrove community, an influence that is deeply reflected in the body of work that she has developed during her residency.

Christine says, “I seek to convey the beauty of humanity’s emotional response to life through my work. Sculpting the human figure allows me to express particular qualities of feeling in very direct ways. People are adept at reading faces for emotional content and my sculptures are part of that conversation.

When I work on a face, I experience a strong attachment to it as it comes into being. I fall in love with the process of teasing out features, a dab of clay at a time. This happens every time, with each face I create. This passion for the sculpting process drives my practice and lays the foundation for endless possibilities.”

Currently there is an exhibit of Christine’s work at the Center that runs through October.

A potluck at 6 pm will begin the evening’s events, followed by Christine’s presentation at 7 pm. Come out for a great night of food and community!

This presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, call the center at 336-873-8430. This ongoing lecture series is facilitated by Susan Greene, NCPC Educational Programs Manager.
