Clay Talks! with Mimi Logothetis

June 6, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join us at the North Carolina Pottery Center on Thursday, June 6th for a slide presentation by Cedar Grove potter Mimi Logothetis!

Born first generation American to a Greek father and South African mother, Mimi Logothetis received her BFA summa cum laude from Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She has been living and working in Cedar Grove, North Carolina since 2001, in a studio she built on her property after renovating and restoring an historic farm house and taking it off grid with solar power.

Mimi works strictly in porcelain. She says, “I’m drawn to the material because of its starkness, purity, strength and translucence, all depending on its manipulation.” She decorates the wet clay with a proprietary printing process she developed, repetitively assembling and layering symbolic images in order to create a story, a joke, or a surreal visual landscape, along with texture and depth.  Her handbuilt work is constructed to show process: seams, glue, rivets, connections. The paper thin translucent work is lit from within to speak about truth coming through to the surface with acknowledgement. Mimi’s work is shown nationally in select group and solo exhibitions and is in many private collections.

A potluck at 6 pm will begin the evening’s events, followed by Mimi’s presentation at 7 pm. Come out for a great night of food and community! For more information about Mimi and her work, visit mimilogothetis.com.

Mimi is a participating artist in the Pottery Center’s first-ever national juried exhibition, Art of Clay. The show is on view at the Pottery Center from February 28 through June 15, and features 41 artists from around the United States. The exhibition’s juror, Douglas Fitch of Scotland, narrowed the field down from 230+ pieces to 3 winning entries.

This presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, call the center at 336-873-8430. This ongoing lecture series is facilitated by Emily Lassiter, NCPC Educational Program Manager.
