Join us at the North Carolina Pottery Center for an in-depth exploration of sculpture! During this weeklong intermediate-to-advanced camp, students will learn sculpting techniques and use them to create a sculptural teapot or a narrative bust.
Our lead teacher will be NCPC’s current Artist-in-Residence, Julie Elkins. Julie is a talented sculptor who delights in the surreal and specializes in building miniature worlds filled with layers of whimsical details. Her work has been collected by institutions like the Mint Museum of Craft and Design, The Fuller Craft Museum, and the Kamm Teapot Foundation. She served as a Sculptor in Residence at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts during the 2015-16 exhibition, “Rodin: Evolution of a Genius,” and currently teaches ceramics at Virginia State University and the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. For video of Julie’s work, click here.
This camp is open to past clay camp participants who are interested in sculpture and looking for a challenge, as well as middle and high school art students who are open to exploring a new medium and pushing their boundaries!
Students should bring their own snacks and beverages, if desired. Water will be provided.
Space is limited to 8 participants, so register early! To register, call 336.873.8430, email membership@ncpotterycenter.org, or stop by NCPC at 233 East Avenue in Seagrove.
