Turning Fundamentals with Eck McCanless

In this hands-on workshop, participants will build wheel-throwing skills with one of Seagrove’s best turners! Eck McCanless will teach participants production turning techniques, including collaring and creating large multisection pots. Participants will have time for hands-on practice, while Eck offers insight and instruction.
This class is geared toward those with a year or more experience with turning, but all levels are welcome. Participants should bring a bag lunch. Cost includes all materials and instruction. This workshop will take place in the Education Building at the North Carolina Pottery Center (233 East Avenue, Seagrove, NC 27341).

About Our Instructor
Eck McCanless is a second generation Seagrove potter with decades of pottery experience. After growing up at Dover Pottery, Eck began turning pots professionally in 1993. He has operated Eck McCanless Pottery in Seagrove since 2011. Eck specializes in agateware pottery created by turning multiple clays on the wheel at the same time.
Eck has been featured in books such as Charlotte Vestal Brown’s Remarkable Potters of Seagrove. He and his family are the subjects of Jim Sharkey’s award-winning documentary, The Fourteenth Shop. For more information, visit www.eckmccanless.webs.com.
