Less heralded in the popular imagination than wheel-throwing, slipcasting — the technique of pouring liquid clay, or slip, into molds — has increased in popularity in the last 40 years with studio potters as a method of producing both simple and complex forms. Cast, But Not Least explores the landscape of North Carolina slipcasting, past and present, to show that it is not secondary to turning; the technique presents complex challenges and requires a different way of thinking about and creating ceramics.
