Clay Talks! with Anne Pärtna

August 2, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join us at the North Carolina Pottery Center on Thursday, August 2nd for a slide presentation by Seagrove potter Anne Pärtna!

Anne is a graduate of East Carolina University (2007) and holds an MFA degree with concentration in ceramics. She received her BFA degree from Estonian Academy of Art (2000), in her native Estonia, where her family still resides on a farm on the Gulf of Finland. She threw her first pot on the hub of an overturned tricycle when she was nine years old while her younger brother spun the wheel.

Anne and her husband Adam run Blue Hen Pottery in Seagrove. She prefers the volatile atmosphere of wood firing, using salt and simple glazes to bring the surfaces of her wide range of forms to life. Delicate line-drawings on cups, plates and covered jars and hand-built sculptural vessels are touched many times in multiple steps of forming, shaping, finishing, drawing and slip painting.

Anne’s talk will address her work, inspiration, and process, and is part of the programming associated with the Pottery Center’s current exhibition, Worldwide Welcome: Global Perspectives in North Carolina Clay.  The show celebrates the diversity of work produced by a number of contemporary ceramic artists who have moved to North Carolina from around the world, bringing with them a multiplicity of perspectives and ceramic traditions. North Carolina has a rich pottery tradition, one that continues to evolve with each subsequent generation and as more artists immigrate to our state.

A potluck at 6 pm will begin the evening’s events, followed by Anne’s talk at 7 pm. Come out for a great night of food and community!

This presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, call the center at 336-873-8430. This ongoing lecture series is facilitated by Emily Lassiter, NCPC Educational Program Manager.
